My freebie pattern is an animal that I love making for multiple reasons - #1, it's super cute! #2, kids LOVE playing with them! #3, it is all worked in 1 piece so there's no fuss, no mess and #4, it works up SO fast!
Without further delay, I introduce to you....
R – Round
ch – chain
st(s) - stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
flo – front loop only
blo – back loop only
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together

Approx. Yarn: (1st Color) – 50 yards
Optional: 2 12mm post craft eyes or (Black) – 2 yards
Materials: US F/3.75mm crochet hook, scissors, yarn needle and stuffing.
Size: Approx. 6 inches
Mostly worked in continuous rounds.
Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
Each section of instruction is repeated to reach the (#).
Stuff the portions where it is instructed to do so.
Use your judgment as to how much stuffing to use. Do not over-stuff.

Bottom of the Body
With (1st Color), Chain 2
R 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6)
R 2- 2 sc in each st around (12)
R 3- *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * around (18)
R 4- *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 st; repeat from * around (24)
Bottom of the Body is now done, do not fasten off, cont. onto the Legs:
*You can chain more/less to make the legs longer or shorter.
R 5- turn, ch 1, in blo, [1 sc in next 2 st, ch 30, turn, starting in 2nd ch from hook 2 sc in each ch, 1 sc in next st] x 8, slip st into the ch 1, turn, ch 1
Legs are now done, do not fasten off, cont. onto the Top of the Body;
Bottom of the Body
*R 6 is worked in the leftover loop from R 5
R 6- 1 sc in each st around (24)
R 7- *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 st; repeat from * around (30)
R 8- 1 sc in each st around (30)
R 9- *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 4 st; repeat from * around (36)
R 10-13- 1 sc in each st around (36)
*If you’re using Post Eyes, attach them now between R 8/9 with 4-5 sts between.
R 14- *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 4 st; repeat from * around (30)
R 15- *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 st; repeat from * around (24)
*Stuff the head to this point.
R 16- *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2 st; repeat from * around (18)
R 17- *sc2tog, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * around (12)
R 18- sc2tog around (6)
Fasten off, use the tail to close the opening and weave in ends.
If you aren’t using post eyes, use (Black) yarn to sew 2 eyes between R 8/9.
And you're done! You have a cutie mini-Octopus all ready to make a lil person smile!
